Routine Sauna Lower Sperm Count

Sauna may be good for blood circulation, but not for the amount of sperm. A new study found that the heat from the steam will affect sperm production. Regular visits to the sauna would lower sperm counts, although the effect may be only temporary. The researchers recruited 10 healthy Finnish men in their 30s who have normal sperm count and never went to the sauna in the past year. Then the participants followed the sauna program for three months, which is 15 minutes of sauna twice a week. The result shows that the number of participants and sperm concentrations were lower after the sauna program for three months. Even up to three months after joining the program, the numbers are still low. Only after six months, sperm production returned to normal. The researchers argue that the high temperature in the sauna who disrupt sperm production, resulting in decreased sperm number and density. The participants scrotal temperature rose about 5 degrees Fahrenheit after each sauna session."Testicular function to cool it," said dr. Andrew Kramer, a urologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center. If the testicle is heated a few degrees of the sperm production will be hampered. This explanation also applies to why the number of sperm also decreases the time when men use tights, regular hot water bath, or put a laptop on her lap in a long period of time. However, it remains unclear whether the sauna can affect male fertility. Live Science launch, the sperm count is not related to fertility. Fertility is more measured than the shape and motility of sperm. In other words, determine fertility sperm quality than quantity.Because this is a small study and only involves healthy men, it could not be ascertained these results can be generalized to the whole man. Kramer also said that the study has not shown sufficient evidence of healthy men to avoid going to the sauna.
